Facing the truth: Dad's addicted to Diet Coke

Facing the truth: Dad's addicted to Diet Coke

The Review, University of Delaware, DE

23 hours ago by Lydia Woolever

My dad is addicted to coke.

The noises wake me in the night and I look at the clock. Its 2 a.m. I hear him - swinging open cabinets, slamming them shut, pushing the bottles around on the shelves. I know what he's doing - he's looking for it.

I glance to my cracked open door and see the reflection outside of my room on the wooden floor.

Thumbs Up

Mid-year Room Changes

That's it, you're fed up. Your roommate is a jerk/whore/nasty individual who has no respect for your studies/privacy/existence, and it is time for you to amicably depart/punch them/burn their things (underline all that apply).

Quindecim, Goucher College, MD

In reference to your recent coverage, I wanted to let you know that on October 24, Lane Company alerted Goucher College that it had declined the college's request for a long-term student housing relationship with Lane. We have gone out of our way to cooperate with the college during its student housing crunch, but the situation has become untenable.

When the novelty of a young black man in the White House wears off, there will be nothing left but bad politics. And don't even think of calling me a racist.

Gay marriage? Fine by us

The 2008 election will be remembered mainly for the boundaries that fell this year and the signs that some of America's most pernicious divisions are slowly fading.

Thanksgiving: Give me a break

The Diamondback, University of Maryland College Park, MD

17 hours ago by Rob Gindes

I'm not so thankful to the people who decided on this year's Thanksgiving break.

I'm sick of getting such a short Thanksgiving break. We've been at school for three months. We're tired and bogged down with work. A week off before the stretch run of the semester would do wonders, but instead the break, which covers just two weekdays, is just an added stress as people scramble to figure out how they'll get home in time to cut the turkey and see all the relatives they hate.

Ladies, listen up: I know it's not your fault, but some people aren't meant to wear booty shorts.

Nice guy looking to settle. Any ladies done with their one night encounters?

It's not OK that you hit a girl and got away with it, which is why I peed in a cup and poured it all over your apartment door.

Off-campus housing inconsistent

The city of Newark is getting rid of Main Street's last wooded lot in order to build a new commercial and apartment complex. The lot, located next to Bing's Bakery, had been zoned for building, but the city was waiting to find the right building to put there.

Men's sports teams held back by Title IX

On Sept. 29, 2006, James Madison University's cross country squad toed the starting line of the eight kilometer course at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa. The men placed 14th - a respectable finish in the field of 42 teams - and senior C.W. Moran crossed the line fourth, in front of 272 other athletes.

I want to be in a (rock) band

Commonwealth Times, Virginia Commonwealth University, VA

1 day ago by SARAH SONIES - Opinion Editor

My musical inclination is limited to my four years of piano lessons and recitals. My parents had big dreams, but sadly I did not-and I decided it was much more important to watch Saturday morning television than learn how to play "Chopin." My passion for music dwindled to me trying half-heartedly to play my old guitar-then, something big and astounding happened that brought it all back: Rock Band.

Letter to the editor: Will Haun should try some cruelty-free veggie options

The Eagle, American University, DC

1 day ago by Max Fischlowitz-Roberts

There are a number of disturbing inaccuracies in a recent op-ed ("AU wrong to promote PETA and 'vegetarian lifestyle,'" Nov. 10). First, the author should know that no one is "shoving anything down his throat," least of all "far left ideology." Animal advocates come from across the political spectrum; the organization I'm interning for this semester, the Humane Society Legislative Fund, endorses Democratic and Republican candidates for political office based solely on their stances on animal issues.

Stop. What are you doing? Reading the paper. But what else? Facebook? Homework? Music? On the phone with a friend? If all you're doing right now is absorbing this article, you aren't being productive. Or at least it's tempting to think that way. Every student knows there aren't enough hours in the day to get everything done.

Guest Column: The real scoop on the Hillel meal plan

Mitzpeh, University of Maryland, MD

2 days ago by Jacob Silvermetz

For the most part, the quality, service and options of the new meal plan exceed those of last year. The structure of this system has completely changed and there is much less of a corporation feel to the food that we eat daily. My question to you is: how will you help maintain that trend? How will you ensure that the meal plan continues to thrive as a cornerstone of our Jewish community on campus?

Your personal actions impact the future of your dining experience.

Op-Ed: AU wrong to promote PETA and 'vegetarian lifestyle'

The Eagle, American University, DC

2 days ago by William J. Haun

As a senior at AU, I am no stranger to our school's attempts to demonstrate tolerance for "alternative" foods and lifestyles by shoving far left ideology down our throats. This time however, the university is literally doing just that. Bon Appetit, AU's official food service (the company that gives us those questionable delectables in TDR), in its attempt to develop an "environmentally friendly" food service, has been attempting to gain the praise of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, a not-so-mainstream "animal rights" group.

As I pulled up to the polling center, I was stunned at the number of people that were waiting in the line. At first I was mad because I hadn't eaten anything and it was about eleven o'clock in the morning. I didn't know when I would be out of line. My feeling quickly changed because I realized that people actually cared about this election.

The Bottom Line: Tax hikes won't lead to improved economy

The Greyhound, Loyola College, MD

Congratulations to Barack Obama on his historic win. Upon taking his oath, President Obama will inherit an economy probably in recession, rising unemployment and a still unstable financial market. Obama ran on a promise to discontinue the Bush economic policies, which he claims caused this situation, and unleash his own proposals to turn the economy around.
